Who We Are

The Genealogical Society of Greater Miami is a non-profit organization incorporated in November, 1974. The object of the society is to stimulate and to encourage its members and others to collect and to distribute genealogical and historical information. Membership in the society is open to individuals, institutions, libraries and societies. The members range from beginners to professionals, including several members who have published extensive genealogical works and many who have had articles published in both regional and national publications. The particular interests and expertise of our members range from areas throughout the United States to foreign countries.
Click here to download a PDF version of our Membership Application. (You must have Acrobat Reader to open this file.) Unless otherwise designated, meetings are held October through April on the second Sunday of the month and on the third Sunday of the month of May, at 2:00 p.m. at the Florida Christian School Library (until renovation is complete on the Moye Chapel at the Coral Gables Congregational Church). The address is 4200 SW 89 Avenue, Miami, FL. Look for the open gate just north of the main entrance. Programs are on genealogical and related topics. Prospective members and guests are welcome to attend.

February 10, 2008: Bring your "Love Letters" from the attic or trunk or wherever you found them. Last year's letters were such a treat, everyone wants to do it again. Remember that it really doesn't have to be a "love" letter--any old letters that may have helped in your genealogy search will fit the bill. Refreshments = Ann Doole.

March 9, 2008: "Medals, Medallions & Mystery Objects" or "Investigating the Bottom of the Trunk" Most of us have mystery objects that somehow relate to someone in the family BUT we don't know what they are or how they fit. Bring a sample to share. We'll use the internet to attempt to identify a couple and look at some that have already been identified and how. Refreshments = Snacks--, Drinks--

April 13, 2008: Lynn Maynard will discuss her British Isles research techniques, sources, and successes--or not. Refreshments = Snacks--, Drinks--

April 19, 2008: GSGM 2008 Annual Spring Seminar! "From the Beginning..." The focus will be on beginning genealogists this year. Bring a friend and get started on your ancestor search! Cost is $20 if you register before April 1 and $25 if you register after. Lunch is included so reservations are required! Click here for a From-the-Beginning-2008 Seminar Registration Form.

May 18, 2008: In addition to the "End of the Year Party," we will have a session on "Evaluating and Citing Sources." Refreshments provided by everyone. (Remember that this month is the 3rd Sunday because of Mother's Day).
