USGenWeb
In March and April of 1996, a group of genealogists organized the Michigan Comprehensive Genealogy Database. The idea was to provide a single entry point for all counties in Michigan, where collected databases would be stored. In addition, the databases would be indexed and cross-linked, so that even if an individual were found in more than one county, they could be located in the index. At the same time, volunteers were found who were willing to coordinate the collection of databases and generally oversee the contents of the web page.

In 2003, township pages were set up by Mr. Everingham that gave a brief history of each township in Montcalm County. This idea was taken from Gratiot County's MIGenWeb site.
2003-and beyond.. Judy Hardy continues to add to our library of information as she has in the past. Her contributions to this project and Montcalm county history reasearch are huge.
Summer 2005, Kevin Everingham taught a 2 hour genealogy class "& discussion", at the Crystal Library. Attendees help to generate interest in the Montcalm MIGenWeb site and volunteers are found to add to the site. In 2005, a surge of volunteers helped us get lots of township information on-line and several individual township historians were established.
In late 2005, Gerry Christiansen began to work on his own township related projects and updated his own area of the web site & well as helping with other township pages.
January 2006, Maple Valley Township became our first township to have more than one historian working to update and add historical information.
In 2007 the information continued to come in from volunteers who helped build the site by 80% more than it's former size, nearly doubling the amount of available information.
