The Tishomingo County Historical & Genealogical Society (TCHGS) is a non-profit organization chartered in the State of Mississippi.  TCHGS has been ruled a qualified federal income tax-exempt organization under section 501(c)3 of the Internal Revenue Code.  The Society qualifies for the maximum charitable contribution deduction for bequests, legacies, devices, transfers, or gifts of money or property to the Society.  With the above qualifications, your tax-free donations are welcomed.

Do you have a project that is especially dear to your heart? If so, why not make a contribution earmarked for that project? Any contribution will be beneficial to preserving the history of the county and the old courthouse museum.

Courthouse Renovations

TCHGS recently acquired two grants from the Mississippi Department of Archives & History Museum for courthouse renovation work.

Work to be done:

Grant #1 -  CHPG#2006-027, House Bill No. 1634, Laws of Mississippi, 2006, Mississippi Community Heritage Preservation Grant-Round 6 award is $35,000, local match is $8,750 for a total budget of $43,750.
 
The  scope of work will be to:
i) Replace all broken roof tile
ii) Re-tar roof area on annex
iii) Remove and replace gutters with 6" leaf guards
iv) Replace facia and soffits as needed
v) Install caps over chimneys
vi) Repair or replace end vents

Grant #2 - CHPG#2007-16, Senate Bill 3190, Laws of Mississippi, 2007, Mississippi Community Heritage Preservation Grand-Round 6 award is $55,000, local match is $11,000 for a total budget of $66,000.

The scope of work will be for structure. repairs. At this time the details are being decided for which problems need to be fixed first or most needed and includes the office and restroom floors, windows, mold and mildew on walls, upstairs and annex interior.

Honorium/Memoriam Gift

Monetary gifts to the museum honoring the memory of a loved one or charity are always welcome.

Museum

Hundreds of objects remain in storage until adequate displays can be funded.  Additionally, we have several collections which require a display unit with the capacity to tell their story; one example is the records of the Tishomingo Agricultural High School, for which we have yearbooks, school histories, and photographs.

Wish List -- we will gladly accept used (workable) items in the following categories:

  • Display cases
  • Preservation supplies
  • Sound system for courthouse events
  • Hard disk digital video camera for events
  • Laptop projector for seminars and presentations
  • Sheet protectors (acid free)
  • Large book stops
  • Lamps to use until we can get new wiring

Office

  • File folders (lots of them, mainly legal size)
  • Copier fixed or new one so we can print more of our publications
  • New printer/scanner maybe larger to hold up to lots of use
  • Laminator (our old one is broken)

Preservation Projects

Signage is needed in various areas of Tishomingo County to earmark the presence of churches, schools, mills, townships, and more.

Research Library

As we continue to grow our collection of books, files, and other papers, we need archival storage bins. We are also in need of a copy machine.

Wish List - we will gladly accept used (workable) items in the following categories:

  • Sheet protectors (acid free)
  • Copy machine repaired
  • File folders (acid free)
  • Large binders 2", 3" and 4"
