Welcome to The Lorain County Chapter of OGS


In 1824 Lorain County was created from parts of  Huron,  Cuyahoga  and Medina Counties.   For information around or before that date, you will want to visit those counties.   

Elyria is our county seat and Wellington Village is the home of our county fair.  The photo above is Lorain Harbor Lighthouse located at the mouth of the Black River.

Our Chapter was chartered by OGS in 1983 and membership includes two affiliates;  Wellington Genealogical Group and Black River Genealogical Group. This Fall we will celebrate our 25th Anniversary as a Chapter at our Annual Lineage Society Banquet and honor our Chapter Founders.   See Chapter Events for more information.

                Wellington Town Hall  c. 1885 still stands today and houses the                    Wellington Police, the Village's government offices, and
      where our affliliate Wellington Genealogical Group meets.
