About the Monmouth County Genealogy Society

The Monmouth County Genealogy Society (MCGS) meets every other month. In addition, we hold classes, workshops and research trips. We also publish a newsletter, The Monmouth Connection which is sent to all members.

Society Goals:

  1. To promote the study of genealogy and history, geography, and social customs of our ancestors;
  2. To collect, preserve and disseminate this information, especially to that of local origin;
  3. To encourage adherence to the highest standards of research and documentation;
  4. To offer educational programs such as lectures, seminars, workshops, and field trips.
  5. To promote the observance of Family History Month in October both locally and nationally.

Our Activities...

  Meetings and Seminars: We meet six times per year [January, March, May, July, September, and November]. Please visit our Events page for full details of our meetings. To see events that we have sponsored, visit our Past Events webpage.
  Records Preservation Fund: We have started a Records Preservation Fund to fund various projects relating to the preservation and restoration of original records. Our first project is the restoration of a part of the 1875 New Jersey State Census covering Manalapan Township. Donations to this fund can be addressed to "Treasurer" at our Society's mailing address.
  Memoir Writing Group: Our Memoir Writing group helps attendees record their personal histories. This group is only open to members of the society.
  Speaker's Bureau: Do you need a speaker to lecture on genealogical topics? Visit our Speakers Bureau to learn more.
  First Families of Old Monmouth County: We have started our own First Families Project. To read the application requirements, please visit the First Families of Old Monmouth County, NJ webpage.
