ALMA (KNECHT) HAGELE

Alma Hagele, age 88, and longtime resident of Sunnyside, WA, died July 14, 1994. Her funeral was July 17, in the Chapel of the Smith Funeral Home at Sunnyside, WA. A private family burial was in Lower Valley Memorial Gardens under the direction of the Smith funeral Home.

Alma Knecht was born Oct. 3, 1906 at Tolstoy, the daughter of John and Mathilda (Jutzy) Knecht. Education reviewed in paper.

In 1930 she married Ted Hagele and together they farmed near Bowdle. She also taught at a country school near their farm for several years.

Her husband died in 1959 and she moved to Washington State, making her home in Sunnyside with her sister and brother-in-law, Kathryne and Hap Smith. She later made her home in Walla Walla, WA, where she worked as an assistant to the dietician at Walla Walla General Hospital for seven years.

Survivors include two sisters: DeEtta Anderson and husband Phil of Grandview, WA; Kathryne Smith and husband Hap of Sunnyside, WA; one brother: Walter Knecht and wife Ann of Tolstoy; several nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband in 1959, one sister, and one niece.
