CHRISTINE SWEDA

Christine Sweda, age 95 of Hosmer and formerly of Lewiston, MT, died May 21, 1993 at the Hosmer Senior Citizens Home. her funeral was May 25 at the Tolstoy United Methodist Church with the Rev. Al Schmierer officiating.

Burial followed at the German Zion Congregational Cemetery at Tolstoy under the direction of the Miller Funeral Home of Bowdle.

Christine Lippert was born Oct. 17, 1897 at Odessa, South Russia to Elizabeth (Jakober) and Jacob Lippert. she moved with her family to America when she was 1 1/2 years old. They farmed near Onaka. She grew up and attended school in that area and recalled many farm labor days.

She married Fred Trefz at Tolstoy in 1919. They made their home in Tolstoy. Later she moved to Bowdle and then to Hosmer. She later moved to Aberdeen where she worked for Gerharter Processing Plant. It was in Aberdeen that she met and married Sam Ackerman. They were married for three years when he was killed in a car accident.

In 1949 she moved to Lewiston, MT. She married Andrew Sweda there in 1951. This is where they made their home. He died in 1983. Christine Sweda returned to South Dakota in April 1988 and made her home at the Hosmer Senior Citizens Home.

Survivors include two sons: Bill Trefz of Hawthorne, CA and Lloyd Trefz of Poway, CA; one daughter: Elenore Green of Grants Pass, OR; one brother: Edward Lippert of Aberdeen; 23 grandchildren, 45 great-grandchildren and several great-great-grandchilren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, three husbands, two sons, two daughters and one grandson.

Casket bearers were Martin Trefz and Larry Trefz of Tolstoy; Leonard Lippert of Aberdeen; Art Eisenbeisz, Jr. and Derek Eisenbeisz of Bowdle and Albert Stoecker of Hosmer.
