His funeral was Saturday at Trinity Lutheran Church in Mobridge with Pastor E. Douglas Heskin and Intern Jill Jackson officiating.
Burial was Saturday afternoon at St. Paul Lutheran Church Cemetery at Java under the direction of Miller Funeral Home of Bowdle
Gustave W. Bieber was born to Rosina (Hausauer) and Friedrich Bieber on March 1, 1907, at rural Eureka in McPherson County. As a young boy he moved with his family to a farm seven miles south of Java. He attended rural school at West Ryan School through the third grade. As the oldest son, he saw very few school days since he was needed on the farm.
He married Marie M. Schreter at Zion Lutheran Church in Lowry on Easter Monday, April 1, 1929. the ceremony was held early in the week so as not to interfere with the beginning of the spring field work. The newlyweds settled on a farm 11 miles south of Java. They stayed there until 1974 when they moved to Mobridge. After the move Gust continued to help on the farm for several years. He lived the remainder of his life in Mobridge.
He was a member of the St. Paul Lutheran Church at Java for 67 years. He was very active in building the new church which was completed in 1960. Following his move to Mobridge, he became an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church.
He was a member of Mobridge Garden Club; Mobridge Moose Lodge; and Mobridge Senior Center where he worked at the Nutrition site until November 1994. He also served on t he West Ryan Rural School Board for six years.
Survivors include his wife of Mobridge; three daughters: Mrs. Lorraine Biel of Java; Mrs. Adrian (Shirley) Kast of Haynes, N.D.; and Mrs. Ray (Pam) Reiss of Java; two brothers: Art F. Bieber of Selby and Albert (Chip) Bieber of Guttenburg, IA; one sister: Mrs. Madalene Schreter of Java; 10 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers (one in infancy) and two sisters.
