HANS JOHANNSEN

Hans H. Johannsen, age 59 of Benton Harbor, MI, and formerly of Tolstoy, died Oct. 14, 1995 at Lakeland Medical Center, St. Joseph, MI. His funeral was Oct. 19, at St. Matthews Lutheran Church in Benton Harbor, MI. There was a Prayer Service at Miller Funeral Home in Bowdle on Oct. 22. Committal services were Oct. 23, at St. James Lutheran Church Cemetery, Tolstoy, with the Rev. Tony Hansen officiating.

Hans H. Johannsen was born to Anni (Holtorf) and Herman Johannsen on May 4, 1936 seven miles south of Tolstoy. He was baptized at his home in August, 1936 and confirmed at St. James Lutheran Church, Tolstoy, in 1950.

He attended rural grade school in Fairview Township south of Tolstoy. He attended high school at Northwest Lutheran Academy in Mobridge, graduating with the Class of 1954. He then enrolled at Dr. Martin Luther College at New Ulm, MN, graduating in 1958 with a degree in elementary education.

He married Charlotte Kahler at Colome in June, 1958. They moved to Everett, WA, that summer where he began his teaching career at a parochial school. More on his teaching career in the paper.

Survivors include his mother, Anni Johannsen of Tolstoy; his wife, Charlotte Johannsen of Benton Harbor, MI; one son, Jim Johannsen of Eau Claire, MI; one daughter, Mrs. Angelo (Thekla) Wilson of Brighton, CO; one brother, Karl Johannsen of Tolstoy; and one granddaughter, Dominique Wilson of Brighton, Co.

He was preceded in death by his father on Nov. 9, 1968.
