Burial followed at German Zion Congregational Cemetery at Tolstoy with Miller Funeral Home of Bowdle in charge of arrangements.
David G. Banik was born Sept. 29, 1909, at Bowdle to Gottlieb and Fredia (Wolff) Banik. He grew up and attended school in the Tolstoy area. After school he worked for his uncle in the Tolstoy Creamery.
He married Edna Heiser, Feb. 16, 1930 at Tolstoy. In 1955 they purchased the elevator from D. G. Hottman and established Banik & son Elevator which he owned and operated until his retirement in 1986. During that time he also owned the Tolstoy Grocery store for three years. He continued to live in Tolstoy the remainder of his life.
He was a member of Tolstoy United Methodist Church where he served as secretary for many years. He was chairman of the Tolstoy Town Board for many years. He also belonged tot he Tolstoy ABC Club and was a 30-year member of the Sully Buttes Telephone Company Board.
Survivors include his wife of Tolstoy; one son: Kenneth L. Banik of Honolulu, HI; one brother: Arnold Banik of Aberdeen; two sisters: Mrs. Arlene Heckman of Watertown and Mrs. Ella Wallli of Spokane, WA; five grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, one sister and one son.
Casketbearers were Jerald Dutt, Loven Stoecker, Leland Stotz, Harlin Hettich, LaRoy Stotz and Lloyd Keller, all of Tolstoy.
