Her funeral mass was Friday, July 23, at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Hoven with Father Marvin McPhee officiating. Burial followed at the church cemetery in Hoven under the direction of Miller Funeral Home of Bowdle.
Melissa Kaye Simon was born April 9, 1979 at Gettysburg to Randall H. and Carol J. (Lillibridge) Simon. She attended St. Anthony's Parochial School and was currently attending Hoven Public Schools, where she was active in track, chorus, and participated in several plays. She was also student manager of the Hoven girls basketball team and an eighth grade cheerleader.
She was a member of St. Anthony's Catholic Church where she was a member of the Children's Choir, and attended C.C.D. (Confraternity of Christian Doctrine), the Gettysburg Dance Club, Hoven Gymnastics and was a past member of the Prairie Pals 4-H Club.
Survivors include her parents; two brothers: Nick and Chris Simon and one sister: Angela Simon, all of Hoven; her maternal grandparents: Wayne and Edna Lillibridge of Gettysburg; her paternal grandparents: Richard and Florence Simon of Hoven; maternal great-grandmothers, Inez Lillibridge of Minneapolis, MN and Mildred Bruce of Mission and paternal great-grandmother: Lena Simon of Hoven.
She was preceded in death by one paternal great-grandmother, two paternal great-grandfathers and two maternal great-grandfathers.
Honorary casket bearers were the Hoven Class of 1997.
Casket bearers were Randy Lillibridge, Gerald Lacher, Gerard Simon, Steve Simon, Jason Kaup and Tate Karst.
