John R. Duenwald was born Aug. 31, 1911 at rural Hoven to Den Duenwald and Mary (Minnerath) Duenwald. He attended rural and parochial schools in the Hoven area. He married Marie Schaefer Oct. 10, 1940 at Hoven.

Survivors include his wife of Hoven; one son: Arnold W. Duenwald of Hoven; one daughter: Irma L. Duenwald of Mitchell; three brothers: Anthony Duenwald of Lebanon; Clem Duenwald of Bead Lake, WA and Lloyd Duenwald of Pierre; two sisters: Genevieve Cizadlo of Omaha, NE and Leona Clarke of San Pablo, CA and one granddaughter.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and one sister.
Pallbearers were Denis Arbach, Duane Karst, William Duenwald, Gordon Huber and Bob Dries, all of Hoven; Vern Kaiser of Tolstoy.
