ROOTS-L Resources: Historical Names and Families

Are you connected to Royalty or to Admiral Dewey? The Ball family of Virginia? Maybe George Bush? There are files about these and other historical names in our collection.
  • Royalty! Charlemagne, the Capets, references and GEDCOM.
  • genealog.admdewey: The descent of Admiral George Dewey (from Charlemagne?)
  • genealog.ballgen: The Ball Family of Virginia.
  • genealog.biblegen: A large (55k) file of information on Biblical Genealogies based on Dr. James H. Stallings' book, "Supplement to Stallings Family Records." Patsy Chappelear, who edited the information in this file to clarify presentation and make it more accessible notes that the file does not contain all of the genealogical information from the Bible.
  • Daniel Boone: An ASCII (text) chart showing the connections between Boones, Bryans, and Morgans may be found in genealog.boone1. The file genealog.boones14 contains 255 descendants, in fourteen generations, of George Boone of England, an ancestor of Daniel Boone, in a compact table of names and dates (no places.) And genealog.boonlinc contains an ASCII chart showing the connection between Daniel Boone and President Abraham Lincoln.
  • President George Bush: These two files, genealog.bushged1 and genealog.bushged2, contain a GEDCOM of the ancestors of U. S. President George Bush. After downloading both files, you should strip off their first and last line, concatenate them, and read them as input into a genealogy program that supports GEDCOM. See also the data on Bush in Brian Tompsett's U.S. Presidential genealogy database.
  • genealog.clinton1: A GEDCOM of the ancestors of U. S. President Bill Clinton. See also the data on Clinton in Brian Tompsett's U.S. Presidential genealogy database.

The first part, genealog.ferg1-3, covers the first through the beginning of the 40th genearation. The second part, genealog.ferg2-3, continues through the beginning of the 49th generation. • The Descendents of Johne McRannald and Catherine McIlstalker: An index to the descendants of Johne McRannald and McIlstalker, from the mid-1600s. This looks like a report generated from PAF. The first of nine files, genealog.reyn1-9, covers wives whose surnames aren't known, and continues from Jean Abarr through Belilah A. Davis. The second file, genealog.reyn2-9, goes from Cora L. Davis to Elizabeth Hill. The third file, genealog.reyn3-9, covers George Hill to a nameless McReynolds.
