Volunteer Spotlight

RootsWeb.com values each individual and organization that volunteers their time and talents to making our site one of the best on the Internet. We hope you enjoy meeting some of these outstanding volunteers whose dedication have made a difference to RootsWeb.com and other researchers.

Kathleen Burnett
List Administrator, Website Owner, and Outstanding Volunteer

:As we all know, volunteers are the lifeblood of many valuable genealogical resources. Volunteers possess a specialty that allows them to assist those searching for ancestors with a given surname, in a given locality, or by means of various record types. Kathleen Burnett does just that. Her volunteer work has lead her to gather cemetery resources from various locations.

The primary way Kathleen donates her time is through the RootsWeb.com mailing lists. She is the administrator of more than 300 lists, and is subscribed to even more. Most of these lists are dedicated to assisting researchers searching in specific localities, or cemeteries in defined regions. The cemetery mailing lists encourage anyone to submit queries and postings regarding location of graves, cemeteries that have been indexed both on the Internet and in other written forms, cemetery research, and the care of tombstones.

In addition to being a dedicated list administrator, Kathleen is the owner of three websites. These sites for Arkansas, Kansas, and Missouri are maintained by three dedicated webmistresses, and were established for the free exchange for cemetery information. They provide a variety of information including links to online cemetery data, transcriptions provided by volunteers, surname indexes, and the names of volunteers who are willing to help fellow researchers. Although each known cemetery in every county is listed, detailed information is not available for all cemeteries. As such, she welcomes volunteers to submit information they have gathered that may be of use to other researchers.

Kathleen is also a the administrator of over 200 message boards, and is a longtime Loomis researcher in addition to owning three websites and administrating numerous mailing lists.

The persistence and dedication of this great volunteer to continuously provide quality cemetery resources for researchers makes Kathleen a valuable asset to RootsWeb.com, as well as the entire genealogical community.

On behalf of the genealogical community, we thank you.
