Volunteer Spotlight

RootsWeb.com values each individual and organization that volunteers their time and talents to making our site one of the best on the Internet. We hope you enjoy meeting some of these outstanding volunteers whose dedication have made a difference to RootsWeb.com and other researchers.

Carol Carwile-Head
Mailing List Administrator and USGenWeb Project Volunteer

As RootsWeb.com users know, a new culture and process for genealogical research was shaped with the development of the Internet. Records which were previously difficult to access are now viewed by countless researchers from their own homes, and a tradition of collaboration between genealogists has intensified.

RootsWeb.com mailing lists are one of the forums researchers most frequently use to team up with those searching the same topic or surname. It is here that fellow genealogists are able to develop relationships with each other, and give advice that helps enable individuals to tear down those brick walls that they run into during their research.

Carol Carwile-Head is a long time participant and administrator of the RootsWeb.com mailing lists. She is currently an administrator of 47 lists that range from a variety of surnames and localities, to topics including immigration and slavery. Possibly one of the most challenging of these that she administrates is the NEWBIE-LISTOWNER mailing list.

With the increasing popularity of this medium, there are constantly new list owners who need assistance learning how to most effectively administrate their list. The NEWBIE-LISTOWNER mailing list is dedicated to assisting these new administrators by providing a place where they are able to receive tips on administration methods, and have their questions answered.

In addition to being a long time administrator and user of the RootsWeb.com mailing lists, Carol is also involved with the USGenWeb Project. She is the county coordinator for three Mississippi counties — Harrison, Hinds, and Tunica — and maintains RootsWeb.com hosted websites for each county. Each websites provides specific information unique to each location to most successfully help researchers.

The persistence and dedication to continuously provide high quality service for RootsWeb.com users makes Carol a valuable asset to Rootsweb.com, as well as the entire genealogical community.

On behalf of the genealogical community, we thank you.
