Volunteer Spotlight

RootsWeb.com values each individual and organization that volunteers their time and talents to making our site one of the best on the Internet. We hope you enjoy meeting some of these outstanding volunteers whose dedication have made a difference to RootsWeb.com and other researchers.

Jan Daamen
Webmaster and Translator

We are pleased to present the first RootsWeb.com Spotlight for our Volunteer Appreciation Month.

Our first volunteer declares that he does not and has never done genealogy. Why would we choose someone who is not a genealogist? Although he does not research his own family history, he has donated countless hours to helping other genealogists. Nearly every hour away from work and sleep is dedicated to genealogists. Aside from being an all-around nice guy, he learned HTML, was a RootsWeb.com Donor, and has a long list of tasks he does on a daily basis.

Currently, he is the Webmaster Team Lead for the International Internet Genealogical Society. He maintains a website for the Volturno Ship Disaster as well as the text for the BeNeLux BMD project. Finally, he translates websites, letters, and various documents to or from English, Dutch, German, and if he is feeling daring, Swedish.

His dedication and selflessness have earned Jan Daamen the distinction of being RootsWeb.com Volunteer of the Week!

Jan, on behalf of the genealogical community and RootsWeb.com, we thank you.
