Volunteer Spotlight

RootsWeb.com values each individual and organization that volunteers their time and talents to making our site one of the best on the Internet. We hope you enjoy meeting some of these outstanding volunteers whose dedication have made a difference to RootsWeb.com and other researchers.

John Fuller and Chris Gaunt
Co-authors of the Genealogy Resources on the Internet Website

In the spotlight this week are the founders of the "Genealogy Resources on the Internet" website. From the site's inception, John and Chris have strived to not favor any single genealogy group or business. This objectivity provides those they are helping with the most efficient source of locating their ancestors.

For those not familiar with it, the "Genealogy Resources on the Internet" site contains indexes of potential sources for genealogy research. Chris and John have organized these resources into subsections to help genealogists locate and share their findings with other genealogists. Some integral topic headings are: mailing lists, websites, e-mail sites, and newsgroups.

In addition to the website she and John maintain, Chris also has her own homepage. Her personal page includes resources on the Internet as well as information specific to names she researches. Chris also not only helps volunteers, but she also helps RootsWeb.com by being a mailing list administrator. She is currently the administrator of the BTRVETC mailing list, which focuses on the Burnetts, Turners, and the families they married located in Virginia, South Carolina, and elsewhere.

In addition to the "Genealogy Resources on the Internet" site, John provides specific support to those exploring their Channel Islands roots (the Islands off the Normandy coast of France). He maintains a website that includes an extensive list of Channel Island surnames, information on individuals searching those names, and links to related sites. He is also a noteworthy participant of the CHANNEL-ISLANDS mailing list at RootsWeb.com. John has also been valuable to the RootsWeb.com staff with his willingness to help with mailing list descriptions and list administrators.

Chris and John provide a great deal of service to genealogists. Their neutral position toward competing genealogical organizations has allowed them the insight to recognize and utilize various resources to their greatest potential.

Chris and John, on behalf of the genealogical community and RootsWeb.com, we thank you.
