:RootsWeb.com has spotlighted many individuals whose participation in the genealogical community touches a large number of people. Although the contribution of each of these researchers cannot be overstated, it is often those individuals who quietly help others that make the various genealogical tools the extraordinary media that they are. Earlier this year, a RootsWeb user contacted RootsWeb.com to tell us of a user who quietly goes to great extents to assist other genealogists.

Tim Robinson is a genealogist living in Maryland who has been doing genealogy for six years. Unfortunately, the elusive nature of his family has made genealogical research difficult for him. For that very reason, Tim enthusiastically helps other researchers track down their ancestors. As a matter of fact, the successes Tim has had in locating information for other people far outweigh his personal genealogical achievements.

Although Tim is not an administrator of any mailing list or message board, he is very generous and helpful to others. Members of mailing lists Tim subscribes to say that it is not at all unusual for Tim to go to great length to obtain information for others. He is constantly looking up information on CDs, in libraries, or on location for those who cannot otherwise access the records they need.

In addition to helping people on RootsWeb.com mailing lists, Tim owns and administrates a website created for the very purpose of supporting genealogists. Based on the information located on the site, users can post queries requesting Tim’s assistance in locating the necessary information for them. Although it is difficult to determine the number of people who have benefited from the services provided, Tim has received numerous requests for assistance in the three years that the site has been up.

Even though Tim spends countless hours helping others with their research, this does not indicate that he has completed his family tree. Tim has a website dedicated to his personal research, where visitors can search his family tree. More importantly, those with information on his lost ancestors can return his innumerable favors by helping him locate the lost branches in his tree.

The persistence and dedication of this great volunteer to continuously assist other genealogists Timothy a valuable asset to RootsWeb.com, as well as the entire genealogical community.
