USGenWeb Archives Church Records Project

Alabama CRP Research Guide

Baptists, Methodists and Presbyterians were the primary religions in Alabama during the 20th century. One source for locating churches is Some early Alabama churches (established before 1870) by Mabel Ponder Wilson. It is out of print, but you may be able to find it anyway.

Most church records for Alabama remain at the local church level, although there are some central repositories.

The USGenWeb Archives are dependent of volunteers, people just like you, donating their time by transcribing public domain records or other non-copyrighted primary sources. Transcribing records is an incredible gift to the present and future researcher. It requires dedication and patient attention to detail, but is not complicated. Your file contributions help build this repository for all researchers to come.
