So far I don't know much other than my grandmother is buried in Towanda PA, and evidently family came from around there somewhere. I know that a Corneilus Van Sice fought in the Civil War and died and was buried in Alexandria National Cemetary. I have lived in Alexandria, VA are for about 40 years and did not discover this fact until very recently!! It is amazing what sometimes is right under our noses and we don't know it. Again great site(s) keep up the great work

of PA was the ancestor of"my" John Cyrus Swartz grandfather. I cannot
find out how his ancestors got to Clarion County where the Swartz
homestead still stands. I can trace his maternal Keck family to Clarion
(and Jefferson County) County, but there are so many John Swartzes in
eastern PA that I don't know where to start! I can't get them out of
Clarion County! (The Swartz homestead, a 250+ farm, was just over the
line from Jefferson County, into Clarion County.)

I'm interested in tracing my paternal side of the familiy which is
Sweisford. I was always told that around 1860 three brothers with the
name of Schweissford or Schweissfort emigrated to the USA from Switzerla
nd.The spelling was later changed to Sweisford. Two settled in the
Perkiomen Valley of PA and one went west to CA for the Gold Rush. No one
knows of what happened to the one who went to CA. All this information
was told verbally to me by my Dad(deceased) and an aunt who is living,
but not interested in genealogy. I've always been curious about the
actual facts whatever they may be & if there were any far flung relatives
on the west coast. Since my Dad was the only male member of his immediate
family and he had five girls, no one carries the family surname in his
family. I & most of my sisters use the S (Sweisford) as a middle initial
because we were given my mothers maiden name as a middle name.

Comments: I am searching my roots. My forebear Robert
Carson (1762 - 1837) fought for the Revolutionary Army. His father was
one David Carson who married Sarah Woods in Chester County on 9 October
1753. This much I know for certain! I think David died in Tyrone
Township in 1779. I know Robert, his son , was born on 7 May 1762 in
Sherman's Valley, Tyrone Township, Cumberland Co., and he died in Nov
1837 and is buried at Swamp County, Attica, Ohio. David acquired his
warrant for his Tyrone property in the same year. My guess is that the
David Carson taxed at Paxton Township (West side)Lancaster Co PA in 1750,
and then at Lurgan in 1751, and at East Pennsboro in 1753 is the same
man. I noted that a 'Widow ' Sarah is paying tax in 1779 at Tyrone. I
am less certain about the previous generation but there is a John Carson
who died in Lancaster Co in 1778 who could be Robert's grandfather.
I should imagine that the line came over from Northern Ireland in the
1720's. So far I have been unable, from this side of the pond, to
establish a link back to Ireland.
This is my very first attempt at communication through this medium.
Goodness knows if I'm doing the right thing.....does it work I wonder?
It will be tremendous if you could reply!

Comments: CAVIN - I am seeking any information about the
CAVIN family in Gaston Co./Iredell Co./Rowan Co./Alexander Co., or
Lincoln Co. area of NC. I have found descendants in the Mount Holly,
McAdenville, Stanley, Gastonia, NC area. I would love to have
correspondence re. CAVIN's in other areas of NC or elsewhere. My g-g-g-
Grandfather is ROBERT CAVIN, born around 1775 (?) in Co. Cavan, Ireland
and immigrated to the US in the late 1700's to early 1800's and settled
near Hiddenite, NC early 1800's(?). He was married to the former Miss
SUSIE HAYNES. Children include: ZIZA GATES CAVIN, SALLIE CAVIN, WILLIAM
H. CAVIN and ROBERT WINSTON CAVIN.
I think that my g-g-g-Grandfather ROBERT CAVIN may have entered the US
through PA before settling in NC, but I have no proof of this. Being the
"Billy Goat Irishman" (stubborn) that he could have been, he probably
swam over from Ireland, for I have yet to locate him or any other of my
CAVIN's on any Ship's Passenger Lists on the Internet. Help!

Comments: I am beginning to research my family's
geneaology. My father's parents both came from Holland (Cornelius
Vandenberg and Helena Barbara Johanna von Baulin), so I have to contact
relatives in Holland to do that research. My mother's parents were from
York county (Clarence Melhorn (other older spellings Maelhorn, Malehorn,
and Melhorne) and Esta (commonly called Esther) Gladfelter). I
understand there is a Gladfelter reunion held in Gladfelter Park in York,
PA and a book on the Gladfelter family that traces the family back to the
Mayflower. Any hints or tips would be greatly appreciated.

Comments: I just happened to be looking for a genealogy
site, to begin looking for information on ancestors to add to our already
(partially) compiled family tree for the GEHMAN family. Because I know
there are MANY Gehmans in the state of Pennsylvania, I was quite amazed
that I found NOT ONE person from the GEHMAN clan in any of your numerous
lists. Although there are numerous ancestors and present day GEHMANs,
but no one on your list, I can only assume we were a reclusive group. I
do know that we immigrated in order to have religious freedom, and quite
possibly, kept pretty much to ourselves. Is there anywhere you can
direct me to further my search? Thanks. Oh, by the way, you have a very
interesting web site.

Comments: It's great what you're doing for other
genealogists. I love doing genealogy but being a working Mom leaves me
little time. I see you have no one listed for Bradford County. I do have
some books that I've compiled on cemeteries in Bradford County, PA
(Albany, Monore, Stevens, Terry, Standing Stone & Herrick townships). I
also do an excellent job at tombstone photography. I haven't advertised
on the net for fear of becoming overwhelmed and not being able to fulfill
all requests--can barely keep up with mail-in requests for info. Keep up
the good work. Perhaps one day when I "retire" I'll consider joining the
ranks. Should one of you need Bradford County research, I can for gas
money & expenses occasionally fulfill a request or point you in the right
direction. Our historical society at Towanda (Bradford County Historical
Society, Main Street, Towanda, Pa 18848) does an excellent job at
answering requests and for a minimal fee. Also, for indepth research,
Hedy Chaffee at the Tuscarora Township Historical Society, R.R.#2 box
