She spent her childhood in Edmonton and left to work on the Alcan Hi-way in 1943 and at the U.S. Air Base in Ft. St. John, B.C. There she met her husband Les Cowan. They married in Edmonton on July 20, 1946 and she travelled around the U.S. and to Europe in nearly 20 years as an Air Force wife before Les retired and settled in Seattle to work for Boeing. In addition to raising six children, she had a wide variety of interests--in Thailand she rode an elephant and in Mexico she para-sailed (at age 65). She loved rafting at the family cabin on Salmon-la-Sac, also in Cairns, Australia and on Oregon rivers. She also loved the Magnolia Ski Bus and the Magnolian's Dance Club as well as the Comus Club which became part of the Emerald City Dance Club. She enjoyed golfing at the Glen Acres Golf Club, then at the West Seattle and Jackson Courses. She played bridge and was a member of the Magnolia Community Center Bridge Group and the Magnolia Womens Club.
