The Settlers!

Have you seen this stove?

A few years ago a wood-burning stove was removed from the Burtonsville Church and has never been recovered.

This beautiful antique, a 'National Oak Stove', was donated to the church in its infancy by Henry Henkel. Mr. Henkel was born in 1885 in Norka, Russia and came to the Burtonsville area in 1911. His wife Margaret was the mid-wife to all of the new mother's in the area for many years. They are fondly remembered for their generosity, kindness and a genuine concern for others even while times were hard and money was scarce. Mrs. Henkel passed away in 1952, and Mr. Henkel in 1960.

The return of the stove would be greatly appreciated by the Burtonsville community in general. If it should suddenly reappear on the church property no questions would be asked.  If you have the stove, or know who does, please have it returned.
