Thanks to Darlene Bush for this report on the evenings activities;
MGRC October meeting was held on Tuesday the 26th at the Mayerthorpe Library with a good turnout of members.
Maureen Polack was in charge of the meeting. She introduced Shelly, who shared the plans her group have for identifying older houses in town. Who built it, was it built onsite or moved in, any interesting facts such as, first house insulated in town. They hope to set up a self guided walking tour of these buildings, once the information has been gathered, organized and put in usable form.
After Shelly’s presentation Maureen handed out sheets with fifty-one questions about our first home. We were paired off and interviewed each other. After a short period of time we introduced the person we interviewed with highlights of what we had learned about them and their first home. Although Maureen had to leave early she had started us on a trip many of us will be continuing. It opens up another way to acquire information from our families as well as reviving memories we didn’t realize we had.
If you weren’t at the meeting and are interested in seeing the questionnaire there are copies below.
Thank you to Maureen for providing the group with this valuable information source. I think I can honestly say that all of those present enjoyed and learned from the experience.
