Rose
School was situated eight miles north east of Rimbey, near the north end
of Gull Lake and was built in 1910 on the S.E. of 33-42-1-5. The name
was chosen from a number of suggestions. It was named after the profusion
of roses growing in the community. It was situated in a picturesque spot
on the north bank of Gull Lake. An arm, or creek at low water, flowed
by the edge of the school yard, and each spring part of the schoolyard
was under water.
The school was constructed due to the efforts of the men of the first
school board; Humphrey Hunting, Peter T. Adams and Mr. Rudolph. Grades
one to nine were taught, ably super-vised by School Inspector, Mr. Gibson,
with Quincy Chiles as the first teacher.
The school was closed for the 1944 - 1945 school year. Correspondence
courses were supervised by Bob Whitesell in the fall of 1946, and Miss
Ellen Hayward in the spring of 1947.
The school was closed from 1948 - 1950 when it was moved to a new location
on the N.W. of 26-42-1-5 and re-opened.
Crestomere School opened in 1953, and students were bussed there. |
