Ramsay Elected Mayor by Acclamation To-day.

Messrs Cushing, Irwin, and Kerr elected by Acclamation in Ward Two. While Major Walker and Mr. Cushing are Elected School Trustees.

"I declare the nominations for mayor closed, and I declare Alderman S. A. Ramsay to be elected mayor by acclamation."
So spoke Charles McMillan, the city clerk as the bells and whistles announcing the hour of noon were heard.
This was nomination day and there were signs of unusual activity around the dilapidated pile known as the city hall.
At 11 o'clock the city clerk announced that he was ready to receive nominations for mayor until the hour of 12, and nominations for aldermen and school trustees up to 1 o'clock.
Until nearly 12 o'clock things were very quiet. At that hour many citizens put in an appearance and there was plenty of municipal talk. There were quite a few surpises. Everyone seemed quite sure that Ward 1 would go by acclamation, but the nominations show that there will be a contest, as no less than seven candidates are in the field.
In Ward 2 there will be no election, as only three names were handed to the city clerk. In Ward 3 five well known men will go to the polls.
This year there are only two school trustees to be elected and only two named today. James Walker and W. H. Cushing, and they will go in by acclamation.
Following were the nominations made:
