OKOTOKS CELEBRATION
The Orange celebration at Okotoks yesterday was a
decided success. The first event was a Calithumpian parade. Although this was
not large it was considered very good. George Ahn won first prize. The Orange
procession began at 10.45. This was the best parade ever seen in Okotoks. After
the procession quite a large number, besides the members of the order,
proceeded to a grove south of the railway station, to listen to the speech
making portion of the programme. O. B. Stockford presided, and the gathering
was addressed by Rev. Mr. Wood, W. E. McLeod and Wm. Bradford.
The sports of the day passed off splendidly. Nanton beat Okotoks at baseball by
a score of eight to six.
The balance of the sports included twenty-two items. A bucking contest was the
chief among these. In this J. Winson of Nanton, won first prize, F. Thorne, of
High River, second prize, and Robt. Morrison, of Okotoks, third prize.
The day closed with a grand free concert in the Orange hall, for which good
preparations had been made.
