The Polo Tournament Closes With a Ball.
Hulls Opera House Gaily Decorated. The Scene of
one of the Most Brilliant Social Functions Ever Held in Calgary.
Probably the most brilliant function ever held in Calgary took place last night
at the opera house, and was the closing feature in the polo week that wound up
with a ball.
The ball was a success in every way that its most sanguine promoters could
possibly have hoped for, and not only were the best people in Calgary present,
but the entire arrangements were such as to reflect credit on all concerned.
The opera house was a vision of fairy land, with its innumerable flags toning
down the glare of the electric lights and making altogether a scene long to be
remembered by those who were present.
The guests were received by Mrs. Wolley Dod and Mrs. W. Toole and then taken in
charge by members of committee and made to feel at home.
Dancing was announced on the invitation to commence at 9 o'clock and it was not
long after that hour before the strains of delightful music gradually making
its way throughout the building announced to the expectant guests that the ball
had commenced in earnest.
The Programme.
The programme was well devised for a night's dancing, and before the last of
the guests bid a reluctant adieu to the happy but weary ladies who received,
daylight had dawned, the opinion was universal that it was the most successful
occasion of its kind that ever happyend in Calgary.
The dancing programme was as follows:
1, lancers; 2, valse; 3, valse; 4, polka; 5, valse; 6, military schottische; 7,
valse; 8, lancers; 9, valse; 10, two step; extras (four); 11, valse; 12,
valse; 13, schottische; 14, valse; 15 two step; 16, lancers; 17, galop; 18,
valse; 19, valse.
The ladies dresses were creations, dreams and visions of loveliness in silk
satin, and other substances that ladies wear that look so nice, but are so
indescribable by the male of the human species.
