SOCIAL GOSSIP.
The regimental ball given by the officers of the 15th Light
Horse was by far the largest and most elaborate social function ever given
here.
The scene was a brilliant one. The striking uniforms of the officers mingling
with the daintier colors of the ladies' gowns, made a happy harmony of color.
The great ball room was ablaze with light, and appropriately decorated with
flags and banners of every hue. The receiving party included Col. Walker and
Mrs. Walker, who looked lovely in a pretty reception frock of Nile green satin;
Major and Mrs. Ross and Major and Mrs. George Macdonald.
A great number of out of town guests were present.
Among the loveliest gowns were:
Mrs. Ross, who wore an elaborately beautiful costume of net, with silver
sequins on a border of huge silver roses raised from a ground work bordering
the skirt.
Mrs. Helm wore a robe of ivory Brussels lace over satin, with wide sash falling
to the hem.
A dress of heavy black Duchesse, with sequins, was the gown worn by Mrs. Nolan,
whose gracefully tall figure was admirably suited by the severe lines.
Miss Pinkham was very attractive in a frock of lace with a high silver girdle.
Mrs. Lougheed wore a handsome gown of black with sequins.
Mrs. Sanford Davis looked extremely well in a costume of Brussels lace,
with touches of Dresden coloring.
Mrs. Robertson wore a stunning gown of cream Brussels lace over pale blue, with
diamond ornaments.
Mrs. Hull's costume was of silver grey brocade. She was accompanied by her
guest, Miss Dodsworth, a charming English girl.
Mrs. Winter wore a gown of ivory brocade and exquisite old lace, with some very
handsome jewels.
Mrs. Howe's gown was black net over taffetas, heavily paillete with silver.
