PRIZES GIVEN AT THE COLLEGE

MACRAE COMMENTS ON RAPID GROWTH OF WESTERN CANADA.


The annual prize giving of the Western Canada college was held this morning, when James Muir, K.C., distributed the prizes.
During the course of his opening address Dr. MacRae referred to the extremely rapid progress which the Western Canada college had made since its commencement. The number of the students had increased from 25 to 85 and it was probable that the attendance and the number of the students would increase very rapidly during the next few years.
 "The staff of masters," said Dr. MacRae, "has been increased from two to five during the last year and the college at the present time had divided its educational course into four departments. The departments are as follows:
The matriculation department; the commercial department; the general education department; the music.
Among those who were present at the ceremony of the prize giving were Very Rev. Dean Paget, D.D., and Rev. G. Ray, B.A.

The Prize List.

The V. C. medal, which is awarded for integrity, perseverance and honesty was won by P. Young, of Springbank.
There is another medal which will be awarded for general proficiency when the result of the university examinations is published.
