The pupils of the Hight School, Grandin street school and Duggan street school were massed in the hall of Grandin street yesterday afternoon for the distribution of the prize to the successful competitors at the recent school sports. The chair was occupied by Premier Rutherford, who before MAKING A BRIEF SPEECH WAS HAPPILY INTRODUCED BY SUPERVISOR Jenkins. Mr. Jenkins spoke in congratulatory terms of the Premier in connection with the honor so worthily bestowed and referred in flattering language to what Dr. Rutherford had done for the cause of education in the province of Alberta. The premier, before proceeding, to the distribution of the prizes, spoke of the beneficial effects of sport in connection with school work, and also made the announcement that he would give two prizes - one of 415, and the other of $10 in books for the best essays on Stratcona. The essays are to be done by the pupils on the High School, and must be completed by next March. The winners will have the honor of having their productions preserved among the archives of the new Collegiate Institution. At the close of the address the prizes won in the sports were presented by Mrs. R.B. Douglas, amid the applause of the pupils.
