1309 EDMONTON DAILY DEC 4, 1907 PRATT, Fred GUN, R.L. COBBAN, Galdwin C. Toronto, Dec 3, 1907 – Fred Pratt, a young English boy was injured in the Deseronto box factory by falling against a circular saw. He died today. Hamilton, Dec 3, 1907 – Grand Master Freed of the Masonic order, has appointed R.L. Gunn to act as grand secretary to fill the office vacated through the death of Hugh Murray. It is likely he will be made permanent grand secretary when the lodge meets. Montreal, Dec 3, - Galdwin C. Cobban, a cashier in the treasure's department of the C.P.R., shot himself under circumstances that leave a doubt as to whether it was accidental or not. He had just returned from carrying a large sum of money to the bank, and as usual, carried a revolver. Immediately after returning he left the office and cantered down the corridor, chatting with the clerks over a joy time anticipated at the St. Andrew's ball. When he entered the lavatory, which at the moment was empty, and a moment later a shot was heard. On entering the locked compartment Cobban was found lying with a bullet hole clear through his head, entering one temple and going out of the other. He was taken to the general hospital, where he died, at 8. P.m. There was no reason for suicide. His books were examined immediately after and found in good shape. He had no private financial worry. He came from Toronto, and was well known in sporting circles and therefore it is thought he was careless in handling the revolver after removing it from his hip pocket. He leaves a widowed mother.
