THE C.N.R. EMPLOYEES PICNIC HUGE SUCCESS

Thousand People Present at Annual Outing Held in St. Albert-- Sporting Events Are Particularly Interesting-- The Prize Winners.

Perfect picnicking weather marked the annual outing of the employees of the Canadian Northern Railway yesterday at St. Albert. The regular morning train was not sufficient to carry the large crowd of pleasure-seekers which entrained at Edmonton, and a special train of four coaches filled with picnickers left the C.N.R. depot at 1.30 in the afternoon.
Between 700 and 800 people went out in the two trains. Many other parties motored or drove out from the city and these, along with the residents and people from other places brought the total attendance to over a thousand.

Ideal Picnic Grounds.

The picnic was held at the St. Albert park and a more ideal spot could not have been selected. The shade afforded by the grove of large poplars was greatly appreciated by the holiday makers, and seated in small sociable groups sheltered from the sun and cooled by a refreshing breeze the spectators thoroughly enjoyed the excellent program of sports. Not a hitch of any nature occurred to mar the pleasure of the day.
The sports were handled in a highly satisfactory manner.
The tug-of-war between the carmen and the roundhouse employees was the exciting event of the day. Three pulls were required to decide the event, and the third pull lasted almost ten minutes. The carmen at last succeeded in tiring their opponents.
Another feature which was especially interesting to the married ladies present was the baby competition, and it was some time before the judges could agree as to the winner, there being so many fine looking youngsters present.
