In the Realm of Woman

            The military ball give by the Sergeants of the 1101st Fusliliers in the Separate School Hall on Friday night was a gay function, the regimentals of the officers landing prior top the scene. Streamers of red, white and blue bunting were suspended from the ceiling to the walls, which were bright with Union Jacks.

            An orchestra, with the 101st Band organ accessory, played martial airs.

            A few of the handsomely gowned ladies were Mrs. Belcher, in rich black satin, with Persian insets.

            Mrs. E.B. Edwards, in black chiffon with insets of cream Spanish lace mounted on black satin.

            Mrs. Osborne, in white satin striped chiffon taffeta, the tunic bordered with fringe- Egyptian scarf.

            Mrs. Mulvey, in silver grey satin with touches of gold on the bodice; rose rever and touches of real lace.

            Mrs.  Edward Carpenter, in white ??? satin with a tunic of old lace bordered with white velvet and band of silver – bodice draped in lace and velvet.

            Mrs. Newtown (London, England). In shimmering black sequined net, mounted on satin.

            Mrs. Armstrong, wife of Mayor Armstrong, in very handsome white chiffon, bordered with lace embroidered in black with pink satin underdress swathed in rose chiffon.

            Mrs. J.P. McDonald, in clinging black spotted net, heavily jetted and fringed, mounted on black satin; rose scarf.

            Miss. Jessie Belcher, pastel blue chiffon; jewel garnitures.

            Miss Zoe Case, in soft pink satin, swathed in shell pink ninon, caught with clusters of French roses and forget-me-nots.

            Miss Mackie (Winnipeg); in hand embroidered net over buttercup yellow satin; pearl ornaments.

            Mrs. Strong, pastel blue satin’ black sequined net tunic.

            Mrs. Bradburn, rose satin; Persian lace panel and bretelles.

            Mrs. McCaig, pink marquisette, over rose satin and lace trimmings; lace garnitures.

            Miss. Fisher, Renfrew, dainty pink and white silk.

            Mrs. Holland Ross, paddy green satin, with Persian embroidered tunic; handsome scarf.

            Miss Collins, in Copenhagen blue celyat, with gold jeweled garnitures.

            Miss Irene Hanbottle, in shimmering white satin and crystal bugled tunic.

            Miss. McIntyre, pale yellow eolienne[???] over yellow satin, touched with cerise and silver.

            Miss. Cora Grant, in turquoise blue nlnon[???] de sole over satin, with gold and jewel garnitures.

            Miss Louiss Gibbons, in soft pink chiffon, with crystal trimmings and lace yokek.

           

            A number of officers present were: Lieut.-Colonel Belcher, Lieut.-Colonel Carstairs, Major Osborne, Captain Gillespie, Captain Mulvey, Captain Carpenter, Mr. Adams, Mr. Stewart, Mr. Owen, Mr. Fox, Mr. Cribley, Major Griesbach, of the 19th Alberta Dragoone; Major Marriott of the 19th; Major Hewgill, Major Fairweather, Mr Mac Dawson of the 119th, and others.

           

            The committee composed of Serg. Major Elliott, master of ceremonies. Col. Sergt. Gillman, secretary Col Sergeants Deschene and Irene and Sergts’ Esplin and Mattingley, who had the function in charge are to be congratulated upon the success of the efforts.
