List of Passengers Rescued and Bodies Identified-- Many Still Shown as
Missing-- Total Number of Souls on Board Was 1479 Out of Which 1024 Are Dead.
QUEBEC, June 2.-- The final complete official figures furnished by the C. P. R.
company late tonight of the Empress of Ireland disaster show a total of 452
saved, making 1,024 lost, as the total number on board was 1,476 passengers and
crew. The following is a summary:
The rescued-- First class, 36; second class, 47; third class, 136;
officers and crew, 232.
The missing-- First class, 56; second class, 209; third class, 582;
officers and crew, 180.
Identified dead-- First class, 23; second class, 31; third class, 30;
officers and crew, 12.
When the Empress of Ireland sailed from Quebec last Thursday afternoon she had
on board 1,476 souls, as follows:
First class, 92; second class 256; third class 718; officers and crew 418.
