Twenty More Varsity Men Are Started on Their Way to Front
First Contingent of Fifth Universities Corps Leaves City
Over G. T. P. for Montreal-- Hearty Send-Off Given at the Depot by the Friends
of the Boys.
Twenty members of the 5th universities contingent left Saturday at
8.30, via G.T.P., for Montreal. They were given a hearty send-off by their
friends. Several farewell functions were held in their honor Thursday.
The following are those who left this morning: Clyde Smith, Karl S. Murray, Thomas
Campbell, C. D. McCallum, R. H. Barnes, Robert Smith, D. Fraser, J. Aylwood,
Geo. McIntosh, John Hope, L. M. Dunning, M. B. Craig, J. F. Kelley, F. R.
Purvis, R. T. Boyce, M. Cowan, Jos. Ballyntine, Alex. F. Huff, A. G. McDermid
and Jack McClung.
Another contingent, larger than this, will leave this week and possibly another
later. Lieut. C. A. Grant will remain and recruit until the last corps goes
forward.
They will assemble at Montreal from all the universities of the Dominion, and
there they will be outfitted and staff training under Captain Eve.
