K.C.'S INITIATE 43 CANDIDATES
Banquet Following Ceremony Was Most Enjoyable Affair
The Knights of Columbus, Edmonton council, No. 1184, held their initiation
services Sunday morning in the separate school hall, the ceremonies starting at
9 o'clock when 43 candidates were given the exemplification of the three
degrees, followed by a big banquet later in the evening at the Macdonald Hotel,
which lasted from 8:30 until midnight, with the orchestra in attendance.
In the main dining room L. A. Giroux, Grand Knight of the Edmonton
council, acted as toastmaster of the occasion, the first toast of the evening
"The King," being proposed by His Grace the Archbishop of Edmonton.
"Our Order" was the next toast, proposed by J. B. Creagan, State
Deputy of Calgary. John J. Ryan (Deputy Grand Knight, of Edmonton, followed
with the toast, "The New Members." The response by the new members
fraternally called "victims" preceded the third toast to "Our
Guests" which was proposed by Hon. P. E. Lessard, M.P.P., and appropriately
responded to by Dr. C. E. Coleman, Grand Knight of Calgary. Hon. Justice Beck,
of the supreme court of Alberta, next proposed the toast "Catholic
Citizenship," which was followed by the salutation "Our
Country," by J. J. Leddy, Grand Knight of Saskatoon. The concluding toast
"Knighthood in Alberta" preceded the singing of "God Save the
King" by the members and guests.
