OFFICERS INSTALLED
Edith Cavell Chapter, No. 23, Order of the Eastern Star, conducted their annual
installation of officers in the Odd Fellows' hall, Centre street, Tuesday, Dec.
30. The spacious lodge room was crowded with members and visitors to witness
the interesting ceremony. The following officers were installed by Mrs. E.
Bonn, assisted by Mrs. E. Andrews: Worthy matron, Mrs. E. Buchanan; worthy
patron, Mr. R. R. Bryant; associate matron, Mrs. A. Nelman; secretary, Mr. J.
Robertson; treasurer, Miss G. Edmonds; conductress, Mrs. E. Ferguson; associate
conductress, Mrs. E. Andrews; chaplain, Mrs. E. Quinney; marshal Mrs. M.
Palmer; organist, Mrs. L. Bodel; Adah, Mrs. L. Scott; Ruth, Mrs. A.
Ramsey; Esther, Mrs. E. Davison; Martha, Mrs. M. Thompson; Electa, Mrs.
A. Stewart; warder, Mrs. M. Eaton; sentinel, Mr. J. W. Gauld.
Sister Ford presented retiring Matron Sister M. Bryant with a past matron's
jewel, while Sister Ferguson and Sister Bonn were presented with a bouquet of
flowers and an emblem pin respectively. The new worthy matron was presented
with ritual.
During the banquet which followed toasts were called for by the toastmaster,
Mr. J. Milligan and responded to as follows:
"King and Country," Mrs. J. Blair, Mr. H. C. Ritchie.
"Retiring Officers," Mrs. M. Bryant, Mr. J. Bodel.
"Sister Chapters," Mrs. Barber, Mrs. B. Scott, Mrs. South.
"Newly Installed Officers," Mrs. E. Buchanan, Mr. R. R. Bryant, Mr.
J. Robertson.
"Masonic Fraternity," Mr. J. Brown.
"Our Visitors," Mrs. J. Flett.
Mrs. M. V. Richardson, Mrs. E. Andrews and Mr. J. W. Quinney rendered vocal
instrumental selections.
