DIPLOMAS GIVEN O.S.A. GRADUATES
Tenth Closing Function is Witnessed by Many
Friends of Students
The Olds School of
Agriculture held its tenth closing function on Friday evening, March 27. The proceedings began at 6 o’clock, when a
tasty and sumptuous banquet was provided for the graduation class “25” their
friends and members of the staff of the O.S.A.. The banquet was followed by the graduating exercises.
In the course of his
opening remarks Principal F.S. Grisdale mentioned that since the opening of the
school in 1913 more than 1,500 regular students had passed through the
Institution. The enrollment for
1924-25, amounting to 191 was the largest since the school was established. A new department in the school curriculum
this year was the beginning of a third year course. This course, given to the two-year graduates of any agricultural
school in the province has as its aim the preparing of students for entrance to
the university by giving matriculation standing. Some students had enrolled in this course and the prospects point
to increased numbers next year.
The address to the
graduating class was made by J.G. Taggart, superintendent of the Dominion
Experimental Farm, Swift Current, Sask.
Mr. Taggart was formerly on the Olds staff and later principal at
Vermillion. It was pointed out that the
students while eminently fitted for leadership in his district, should realize
that the long practical experience of the farmer on the land was worthy of
consideration. That old established
practices found by actual operation to be practical should not be changed for
idealist methods that might or might not prove successful: in short, there
should be a happy co-operation between the methods on the farm and the advanced
knowledge obtained by the student at the schools.
The presentation of
diplomas to the 40 graduates was made by Mr. Eisenhauser, irrigation instructor
at the schools and university.
The following received
diplomas
