ANNIVERSARY OF DUCK LAKE FIGHT
It was 41 years ago Mar 26, 1885, that the Northwest rebellion started. The Duck Lake skirmish was the torch that set the flame raging in the bloody conflict between the white men and Indians, in which Lois Riel was one of the leading figures.
Major Crozier was in command of the R.N.W.M.P. at Duck Lake and the time with100 men, when the attack by the rebels opened. Ten men were killed and 11 wounded. Major Crozier was forced to retire to Carlton, taking the dead and wounded with him. There he was joined by Colonel Irvine and his command, Between 50 and 60 half breeds and Indians were killed and wounded.
