BOYS OF 49TH WILL BANQUET NEXT JANUARY

 

“Fall In” will sound for the members of the 49th Battalion, the Edmonton regiment, association on Saturday, Jan 7, next, when the annual banquet and reunion will be held at the Royal George hotel.

 

Strong committees have been struck and it is expected that the next mobilization will surpass al that have gone before in magnitude and effectiveness

Former members of the Princes Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry, the Royal Canadian Regiment and the 42nd Royal Highlanders of Canada which with the 49th battalion, formed the 1th infantry brigade of the 3rd Canadian Division, are eligible to attend.

 

Reports on various association activities were received at a meeting held Tuesday evening at the Army and Navy Veterans clubrooms, under the chairmanship of Major General W.A. Griesbach, C.B. C.M.G. D.S.O. It was reported that standard 49th wreaths had been sent to the funeral of all ex members of the battalion who had died during the last year and that no fewer than three members of the association had attended the funerals.

 

On the anniversaries of the  more important battles in which the battalion participated, memorial notices have been published in the local press. It was proposed to continue this procedure until the last “Fourty-Niner” had answered his final roll call. Former members of the battalion from all over the country had expressed their appreciation and approval of the publication of the notices.

 

The annual church parade was held last July from the Memorial hall to All Saints’ pro-cathedral where Rev. Canon Pierce Goulding preached the sermon. The militia battalion of the regiment supplied a military band, 35 strong, under the original bandmaster J.B. Daly and Pipe Major Laing had led his pipe band, 15 strong. The color party had been under command of Lieut. J.C. Thomson.

 

The financial year of the association, it was said, commences on Jan 4 next, the anniversary of the organization of the battalion. When dues would be received by the treasurer. Earle Hay.
