PRESENT PRIZES PINCHER CREEK
Convocation Ceremonies of High and Public Schools Are Held
PINCHER CREEK, July 4.-- Convocation ceremonies of the public and high schools
Friday were the most successful ever held here. W. A. Ross, former principal,
and for many years secretary- treasurer of the board, presided. A large
gathering of pupils, parents and guardians attended.
The prizes donated by Captain McPhail Chapter, I.O.D.E., for greatest
improvement in writing in grades I to VIII in the public and separate schools
were presented by the regent, Mrs. G. J. Stone, who gave a short address to the
recipients, and Mrs. Halton, educational secretary.
Principal A. W. Crum dealt with the progress shown in the higher grades and
spoke of the co-operation between the board, parents and staff. He expressed
regret that Mr. Frickleton and Miss Crook of the high school staff were
leaving.
Rev. W. R. Jeffcott gave an inspiring address to pupils and graduates,
stressing the need to "play the game" as they enter higher edu-game
of life.
F. Flaherty presented medals to winners at the athletic school meet.
Presentation of medals to honor students in grades VIII, IX, X, XI and XII and
to public school pupils making highest marks in their grades was made by W. A.
Ross and A. W. Crum as follows:
Grade VIII-- Phyllis Hoare, Lyn Smith, Ruth Hassett, Douglas Fraser, Edna
McLaughlin, Mae Allison.
Grade IX-- Joan Buchanan, Margaret P. Walters, Sydney Potter.
Grade X-- John R. Jackson, E. Doris McLaughlin, Doris M. Cox, Lillian E.
Bishop.
Grade XI-- Kathleen M. Ross, John S. Colclough, Muriel Lancaster, Aylmer R.

Coyotes have taken a heavy toll of deer in the Jefferson national forest of
Montana. Bands of ravenous "yellow wolves" of the prairie range far
and wide seeking the game and their movements over heavily crusted snow are
swift and sure.
