MRS. W.A. Griesbach Hostess to Nearly 100 Tuesday evening

At a keenly enthusiastic meeting at the house of Mrs. W.A. Griesbach on Tuesday evening the Canadian First Club of young women. Conservatives was formed. This gathering of nearly a hundred young Conservatives will be followed by an open meeting on next Tuesday evening in a down town hall. Mrs. Griesbach convener of the club was a charming hostess and the meeting was in the nature of a large round table gathering with the girls present eagerly taking part in the live discussion that followed Mrs. T.D. FitzSimon’s brief Address.

As president of the senior club, Mrs. FitzSimon extended their congratulations, and spoke in an interesting manner of the history of responsible government, the effect of tariff in building up industries, and answered conclusively, “Why are we Conservative?” She explained the present unemployment situation, for which she held the present government responsible.

To Meet on Tuesday

Among the girls who spoke following her address were Mrs. Victor Johnson, chairman of the working committee of the club, and Miss. Dorothy Smith, who explained that it was possible to defeat what appeared to be the strongest candidates, giving examples. She also reminded the meeting that a large number of the 14,000 new voters on the voter’s list in West Edmonton would be young people.

General approbation met the choice of the club name, as expressing in every way the principles of the club.

It was decided that the “Canada First Club” would meet on Tuesday evenings and that, with organization in the small group effected, a large open meeting with speakers would be arranged for next Tuesday evening.

Tentative plans for a dance and social evening to be held jointly with the young men’s Conservative Association were also made. The committee of the club includes
