SANKOFA'S SLAVERY DATA COLLECTION
Thomas Bragg Plantation
Location: Washington Co., TX
Constructed: ----
History: Thomas Banks moved to Texas from Alabama in the late 1850's. It appears that many of his slaves were inherited from his parents, Willis Banks and Mary Gray, who lived in Tuscaloosa Co., AL. He apparently left Alabama in 1858, probably to avoid repercussions from a situation in which he was reported to have whipped to death a slave held by a Mr. K. Chandler.
Associated Surnames: Banks
Associated Black Slave Names
1860: Slaves Deeded to Mary Waldron Banks and children
From Deed Record #133, Washington County Court, filed February 25, 1860. Contributed by Felicia Bragg.
