History: Old Augusta, known originally as Augusta, was established in the first decades of the 19th century, perhaps as early as 1815. It was the county seat of Perry County, Mississippi. It was also an important stop on the road between Mobile and Natchez.

Description of Locale

• Old Court House: Because of its location, many slaves were traded between Mobile and Natchez. According to local history, slaves were auctioned on a block in front of the old courthouse at Old Augusta.
