Anchorage resident Bobby Alex, 68, died Jan. 11, 2011, at home of natural causes.

A service will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at St. Innocent Russian Orthodox Church, 401 Turpin St. Burial will be at Eklutna Village Cemetery at 3:30 p.m. Following the burial there will be a potluck at United Methodist Church in Chugiak at 16430 Old Glenn Highway.

He was born April 27, 1942, at Eklutna, in the Territory of Alaska. He was born to Mike Alex, the last traditional chief of Eklutna, and Daria Ephim. He graduated from East High School in 1962. He then went on to attend Alaska Methodist University, Drury College in Springfield, Mo., and Jacksonville State University in Jacksonville, Ala. He served in the U.S Army from 1964 until 1970 when he was honorably discharged. He then went to work for Arco on one of the platforms as an operator in Kenai. He retired from Arco in December of 1992. Bobby learned to commercial fish at Fire Island from his father. He continued this tradition by teaching his nephews how to work the fish site through most of his adult life. He enjoyed traveling to Hawaii. His other loves were singing and telling stories of his life. He is survived by his siblings, Lois, Margret, Julia, Max, Linda, and Timothy; as well as many nieces and nephews. Bobby was preceded in death by his father, Mike; mother, Daria; and his siblings, Herbert, Andrew, Daniel, Catherine, Virginia and Mildred.

John Martin Rosenberg, 28, died Dec. 17 at his Anchorage home.

A prayer service is scheduled for noon Thursday at Evergreen Memorial Chapel, Eighth Avenue and E Stret, with the Rev. Simeon Oskoloff officiating.

He was born Feb. 2, 1961, in Anchorage. Mr. Rosenberg was a member of Ironworkers Local 751, working throughout Alaska. He was also a shareholder of Eklutna, Inc.

He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing, skiing, snowmobiling and mountain climbing.

Mr. Rosenberg is survived by his parents, Gilbert and Marie, of Chugiak; his brother, Frank, of Anchorage; his sisters and brothers-in-law Theresa and Greg Hartman, of Chugiak, and Diane and Rick Leggett, of Anchorage; three nieces, three nephews and several aunts, unlces and cousins in Alaska and New Jersey.

Burial will be in the Eklutna Village Cemetery this spring.

MARIE ONDOLA ROSENBERG

Peters Creek resident Marie Rosenberg, 70, died Aug. 24, 2003, at the Alaska Native Medical Center after a short but hard-fought battle with lung cancer.

A memorial service will be at 7 p.m. Friday at the Alaska Native Heritage Center, 8800 Heritage Center Drive. Roger Buls will officiate. Burial service will be at 3 p.m. Saturday at the Eklutna Village Cemetery. Pallbearers will be James Flynn, Aaron Leggett, John Enders and Toby Lovelace.

Mrs. Rosenberg was born April 4, 1933, in Birchwood to John and Olga Ondola. She was the eldest surviving daughter. She lived her entire adult life in Peters Creek with her husband, Gilbert, in the home they had built.

She retired from the Anchorage School District in 1987, where she had worked as the manager of the cafeteria at Chugiak High School.

Her family wrote, "The happiest moments in her life were the times she spent with her family and friends at social gatherings, watching Atlanta Braves baseball games, playing bingo and regular vacations to Las Vegas."

Mrs. Rosenberg is survived by her husband of 54 years, Gilbert Rosenberg; daughter, Theresa Hartman; son, Frank Rosenberg; daughter and son-in-law, Diane and Roger Buls; grandchildren, Elizabeth Cornett, Lisa Enders, James Flynn, Rachel Lovelace and Aaron, Adam and Angela Leggett; five great-grandchildren, Tyler, Austin, Tiffany, Halona and Avery; four brothers and their spouses, George and Susie Ondola, Carl Ondola, Roy Ondola, and Jerry and Connie Ondola; four sisters and their spouses, Sophie and Gilbert Gutierrez, Dorothy Cook, Gina Ondola and Sally Drussell; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her son, John, and two sisters, Elsie and Ellen.

Anchorage resident William Bryan "Buddy" Walters Sr., 38, died at Alaska Regional Hospital on May 6, 2010.

A visitation will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Legacy Funeral Homes-Bragaw Chapel. Family and friends are invited to share memories of Buddy. After the visitation, a graveside service will be at 1:30 p.m. at Eklutna Village Cemetery. A potlatch will follow the service at the Eklutna Community Center. Please bring a dish to share.

William was born Feb. 1, 1972, at Fort Lewis, Wash. He became a resident of Alaska in 1973. He attended Steller School from 1985 to 1987. William was an avid reader and enjoyed football and his cats. His family wrote: "He was well loved by his family and extended family. He had a big heart. The Bible verse that inspired Buddy was Matthew 11:15." He is survived by his mother, Gina D. Ondola of Anchorage; father, William H. Walters of West Virginia; sister, Agena A. Moore of Wasilla; life partner, Randy Miller of Anchorage; uncles, George, Roy and Jerry Ondola; aunts, Sophie Gutierrez and Dorothy Cook; and son, William Bryan Walters Jr. of Anchorage.

He was preceded in death by his cousins, Russell and George Ondola, John Rosenberg, Kristin Kirk and Wayne Cook; and great-grandfather, Eklutna Alex, the last traditional chief of Eklutna Village. Flowers are welcome, but a donation toward any pet shelter or pound would be appreciated. Arrangements are with Legacy Funeral Homes & Cremation Services, Bragaw Chapel.
