|
1959 - In honor of Alaska's joining the Union as the 49th state, the Alaska Society, DAR, presented the Anchorage International Airport (now the Senator Ted Stevens Airport) with a 49-Star American flag. The flag was the official flag of the United States of America for just one year when Hawaii was admitted to the union, necessitating the adoption of a 50-star flag. The flag is currently in storage awaiting the completion of the airport remodelling project. |
