John L. Carlson built a cannery at Auke Bay, near the outlet of Auke Lake, in 1919 but it
operated only a few seasons.

William Winn and N.A. Needham in 1902 Auke Lake was claimed for a fish hatchery
site. Auke Lake - on the mainland approximately nine miles northwest of Juneau and near Mile
12 on Glacier Highway. The lake, which has an area of about 170 acres, is within a quarter of
a mile of tidewater at Auke Bay, to which it drains via Auke Creek.
