SOLDOTNA,
Alaska - The first-ever cemetery in Soldotna has been dedicated.
KSRM
radio reports (http://bit.ly/mXQAg9) the dedication ceremony for
the Soldotna Community Memorial Park was held Sunday afternoon
at the cemetery overlooking the Kenai River.
The
park also features a Memorial Wall to honor Soldotna residents
who were buried elsewhere before the cemetery was built, and a
Veterans Memorial.
The
dedication marks the end of years of controversy over where to
place a cemetery in the Kenai Peninsula community. Neighbors didn't
want it near the residential neighborhood where it was proposed.
But compromises, such as a buffer zone of trees between the cemetery
and the houses, eventually cleared the way for the 17-acre park.
