Alaska's Geographical Regions
Southwestern Alaska
This region includes the Alaska Peninsula, the Aluetian Islands and the British Bay area.
This region is known for its rugged topography and its climate is wet, with foggy summers and disagreeable winters. Most of this portion of Alaska is treeless lying entirely outside the forest zone, and the vegitation is a heavy growth of grass intersparsed with patches of brush. The small population is largely Native - Aleuts and Eskimos. Kodiak and Unalaska, both small towns are the only permanent settlements of importance.
The fishing industry, together with fur trapping, is the principal source of livihood to the Native population.
