CHILDERS, CHILDRESS, FAGAN, CROSS: I am looking for information on Henry CHILDRESS and his wife Rebecca who lived in Benton (Calhoun) Co., AL 1850 census. Also, they had a daughter Tinzy (Tennessee) who married Robert FAIGEN July 21, 1850. I believe they had another daughter Elizabeth who married James CROSS in Marshall Co., AL Jan. 8, 1846. All of these families were in Clark Co., AR in 1860 census. Look forward to hearing from anyone researching these lines, and I will be glad to exchange data.

John Lewis BOWMAN born August 13, 1813, in South Carolina and his wife Matilda BLACKBURN born March 22, 1813 in South Carolina left Abbeville, SC, between 1837 and 1839 with their two young daughters: Georgia Ann Caroline (born 1835 in SC) and Margaret Jane (born 1837 in SC). They came to Benton (Calhoun) County, AL and are listed on the 1840 Census there. The other seven children of John Lewis and Matilda Blackburn BOWMAN were born in Benton County, AL: William Warren (1839), Sarah Malinda (1842), George Washington (1844), Roseanna Emiline (1847), John Taylor (1850), Mary Isabella (1852) and Lenora Ledora (1854). John Lewis Bowman and his family are listed in the 1850 Census for Benton County, AL, and John Lewis is listed as a farmer who owned no slaves. Between 1854 and 1858 the family moved to Brazos County, Texas, and in 1861 to Falls County, Texas. I would be interested in corresponding with anyone who has an interest in the BOWMAN family and related families of BLACKBURN, WARDLAW, CALDWELL, and REID.

CHANDLER & BONDS: Joel CHANDLER was born in 1800 in South Carolina. His father was named John CHANDLER, and referred to as "Grandsire Chandler" His wife, Ritah BONDS, was born in 1758 in South Carolina.  By 1820, they were married, had their first child, and were living in Georgia. The 1830 Census shows them in Carroll County, Georgia. In 1840, they had moved across the state line to Alabama and were living in Benton County. By 1850, they had moved on to Arkansas and can be located in Mine Creek Township of Hempstead County. The 1860 Census shows them living in Nathan, Pike County, Arkansas. Grace Chandler Hairston writes that her Grandfather "Joel left Piedmont, Calhoun Co., Alabama in 1845, with his wife, 14 children and two slaves" along with a "caravan of 7 covered wagons" which consisted of the WOMACKs, BREWERs, LINGOs, SHARPEs, OWENs, and BROWNs. They crossed the Mississippi River on the morning of January 1st of 1846 and came on to what is now Nathan, Pike County, Arkansas".   Rita (Ritta, Ritty, Ritah) BONDS is the daughter of Richard and Mary BONDS. Richard died in 1834 in Benton County, Alabama and "Ritty" CHANDLER is listed in his will. Richard and Mary BONDs had the following children: Francis, William, Mary, Vardy, Nancy, Ritta, Sally, Rachel and Richard BONDS Jr. Joel and Ritta (BONDS) CHANDLER had the following children:

I am searching for information about my grandfather, William Russell THOMAS. He is found in the 1900 census for Alabama City (precinct 29), Etowah County, Alabama. It is in Vol. 22, Enumeration district 165, Sheet 21, Line 16. His birth date is given as Dec., 1864. He is listed as having 4 daughters, Margaret (16), Martha (13), Jennie (11), Lottie (9) and 1 son, Clyde O. (1). All 4 of his daughters have their occupation listed as spinner in Cotton Mill. His first wife was apparently already deceased. He is found in the 1910 census for Calhoun County, Alabama. His wife is listed as Sarah F. (28). His children include daughter Mattie (23), son John L. (9), daughter Abbie E. (7), and Oliver L. (2). The Mattie listed would seem to be the one listed as Martha in the 1900 census. His age is given as 50, but should have been 46. Abbie E. is probably the one called Edna by her younger sisters. A comparison of the two census records indicates: [1] Margaret, age 16 in 1900 would be 26 by 1910 and had apparently moved out, [2] Martha, age 13 in 1900 would be the same as the 23 year old Mattie in 1910, [3] Jennie, 11 years old in 1900 was no longer with the family in 1910, [4] Lottia (Lottie), 9 years old in 1900 was no longer with the family in 1910. [4] Clyde O., 1 year old in 1900 was no longer with the family in 1910. The names on the census records match the names relayed from my aunt.

Seeking any information on Rhessa REID born about 1796 in Georgia. He was married to Mary (last name unknown) who was also born in Georgia. They had four girls that I know of, but I only know the names of two: Nancy born about 1836 and Georgianne born about 1840. The family lived in Benton county in 1850 and were still there (actually in Calhoun County) in 1860. From there I have lost all but Nancy who married William OLIVER and moved to Mississippi.

I'm searching for information about N.F.WRIGHT born 1837 in SC married to Sara Jane SMITH.They lived in Jacksonville around 1865.Their children were: Carrie,Elizabeth Francis (my ancestor), Willie, Charlie, Georgia, John, and Henry. I'm seeking any relavant information about the family of Henry Allen COLEMAN, b. 1814 in Putnam co.GA. m. to Sarah Ann BARNES, b. 1807, who were possible residents of Benton Co., AL. They had several children which included 3 sons: James P. COLEMAN,b. abt 1836; William Allen COLEMAN, b. 1838, and John Henry COLEMAN, b. abt 1840. W.A. COLEMAN m. Cynthia RIGGS,who had kin in Alabama also. They had two sons: John W. COLEMAN, b. 1859 in Alabama, and William Forrest COLEMAN, b. 1864 in Carrollton, GA. I am also seeking contact and information with descendants of ex-Confederates who went to Honduras, Central America, following the War Between The States for the purpose of escaping persecution and the Reconstruction era. Most of these families returned to the states by the year 1869. There were approximately 30 families which included the surnames of: ALLEN, ANDERSON, BAILEY, BARNES, COLEMAN, CUNNINGHAM, MITCHELL, MURPHY, NORRIS, NORREN, and WALLER. Many, if not all of these families were probably Free Masons. I believe some of these families may have been from Benton county and possibly had family connections.

BROWN, HONEA, THOMPSON. Seeking any information on James BROWN, b 1770/1780 who was supposedly the first sheriff of (Benton) Calhoun County. His son Alexander BROWN married Lydia HONEA (whose father was Tobias HONEA, Revolutionary War veteran) 8-20-1826. Their son was James W. BROWN b c 1828 who married Almarinda THOMPSON in Calhoun County 4-6-1848. James' brother John L. BROWN also served a sheriff of the county and married Mary ABBOTT 5-23- 1854. Any details or links appreciated.
